Glynsaithmaen Stones
07 August, 2006
The Glynsaithmaen Stone Complex is located near Mynachlog-ddu in Pembrokeshire. This complex of stones includes a stone pair, known as The Stones of the Sons of Arthur (Cwm Garw)(pictured here), a single stone in a field bank near the house, a prostrate stone in the farmyard, a single stone in a hedge to the south-west of the farm and a stone on the other side of the road belonging to Gate Farm. The principle stone is 2.3m high.

This is part of the Mynydd Preseli which is a very distinctive historic landscape character area. Its defining characteristic is its open nature which is in sharp contrast with the surrounding enclosed and settled farmland. The area was also the source of the bluestones of Stonehenge.

When Stef and I first visted these stones in October 2004, we hiked across the open boggy fields. Our boots and jeans were stained red from the iron in the numerous springs which feed from the hills. Very squishy. This time we approached the stones from the farm track. There's a real sense of isolation even though a farmhouse is nearby.

More info on the area is at: http://www.cambria.org.uk/HLC/Preseli/area/area281.htm
